Historical Research

Since 2006 I have also been pursuing aspects of local history and family history that have had little relevance to archaeology. This has become an increasing part of my life and I am happy to consider commissions to research the histories of places, businesses and people.

Subjects I have researched privately include:

  • History of Lincoln's allotments

  • Grosvenor Hall / Bracebridge Hall, Lincoln

  • Herrings's Nursery, Lincoln

  • Walkers/Smith's Crisps Factory, Lincoln

  • Gravel extraction, Birchwood, Lincoln

  • William Mortimer, architect, Lincoln

  • Chester Works and Spa Buildings, Lincoln

  • World War II emergency fire-fighting water supply, Lincoln

Most of these subjects have been published by The Survey of Lincoln, either in their booklets series or in their newsletter The Lincoln Enquirer.

Commercial commissions include:

  • Identification of individuals commemorated on war memorials at Lincoln, Bracebridge & Bracebridge Heath

  • Research into the development of properties in Lincoln, Romford and Forest Gate
